ADULT SINGLES LEAGUE

Empire Tennis Academy offers an Adult Singles League, played outdoors at the Harley School during the Spring and Summer months. Organized by ETA’s Director of Tennis, Jason Speirs, we welcome current USTA rated 3.0 or above players to our Adult Singles League. The league is 12 weeks long and culminates with a Playoffs round. Complimentary ASL sessions are awarded to the winners!! You are not required to play each week, although we welcome and encourage you to do so. Players are added to a ladder based on several criteria: NTRP, Points (+/- .05 for each win/loss), Win Percentage (wins/total), and Current Streak. Depending on your results, your rating can move up or down .05 from your original ladder position. You’ll play an assortment of matches against players above, below, and in your same division. All matches will be paired at the discretion of the organizer, Jason Speirs.

ADULT SINGLES LEAGUE:

May 28th - August 16th, 2019

Playoffs - August 19 - 30th

Empire Tennis Academy (ETA) is excited to organize an Adult Singles League, played outdoors at the Harley School. Organized by ETA’s Director of Tennis, Jason Speirs, we welcome current USTA rated 3.0 or above players to our Adult Singles League. Our league is 12 weeks long and will culminate with Playoffs rounds (and prizes for those winners!!). You are not required to play each week, although we welcome and encourage you to do so. Players are added to a ladder based on several criteria: NTRP, Points (+/- .05 for each win/loss), Win Percentage (wins/total), and Current Streak. Depending on your results, your rating can move up or down. The same two players should not play each other twice during regular season, unless they meet in the Playoffs. You’ll play an assortment of matches against players above, below, and in your same division. All matches will be paired at the discretion of the organizer, Jason Speirs.

Matches are played Monday, Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 7-9pm during the summer. Each Friday morning, you will receive an email from Empire indicating availability for the upcoming week. Reply with your availability over the weekend; e.g. ‘Tuesday and Thursday nights work great this week. LMK’. We welcome folks to play more than once a week, depending on player availability and courts, just request multiple matches. However, you’re not obligated to play each week either. We will choose one night that you indicate and reply Sunday night. Confirm and all you have left to do is show up for the match. Cancellation due to rain will be notified before 3pm of the same day.

Keep in mind we are trying to accommodate everyone’s schedule and respect your opponent by letting me know in a timely manner if you cannot play, or running late. Cancelling within 24 hours will result in a late cancellation fee of $20 to cover your share and coordinating one of my staff members to fill in.

Even though the league is competitive, cheating and unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Please be fair to everyone and willing to replay points if necessary.

Rules:

  • Be on time; 7pm to ensure enough time for a 30 minute warm-up. If there is time remaining, you’re more than welcome to stay and play. You may have to share a court to warm up, depending on court availability. You also do not have to use the full 30 minutes if you have a court to yourselves

  • Play Two sets, with ad scoring and a 10 point tie-breaker instead of a third set if you split

  • When you finish your match, the winner must write down the scores on my desk

  • Partial scores will be dealt with on an individual basis, but ties will only be considered if the player that lost the first set is up at least three games in the second (e.g. 6-4, 0-3), or a break to close the second (e.g. 6-4, 3-5)

  • Playing one match automatically puts you on the ladder

  • Winning three matches in a row against players of your level, or above, will move you up a full quarter point (.25)

  • Losing three matches in a row against players of your level, or below, will move you down a full quarter point (.25)

  • Players that have played a minimum of six matches or more qualify for Playoffs & Prizes
