Advanced Level
Advanced level classes are for players who have displayed successful results in competition and have proven they are able to perform at a high level under the pressures of match-play. These players have multiple years of experience in the sport and practice and compete consistently both within our walls and in events throughout the area. At this level, they learn the physical, mental, and technical skills necessary to begin playing and winning more frequently. All players in Advanced level classes have been reviewed and approved by an Empire Tennis Academy Program Director.
Ages 5-8
The Red Advanced class is a 90-minute invitation-only class. Students must prove to consistently be able to hit 3-4 shots in a row the majority of the time during points as well as being currently enrolled in our Red Rally Club. Students will learn how to change the direction of the ball, hitting both cross court and down the line. Fed ball drills will have students not only running sideways, but also forwards, backwards, and diagonally. We will introduce the volley, overhead, and approach shots throughout the classes along with introducing a variety of different tactical games that the students will play while keeping track of score.
Another important component of this Red Advanced is the introduction of Orange ball. During the last 30 minutes of class, students will transition from the 36’ Red ball court to the 60’ Orange ball court using the Orange balls. During this time, students will get acclimated to using the larger court with the higher net and adapting to the difference size/bounce of the orange ball. Technical instruction becomes even more specific on all shots and students will play several different tactical games on the 60’ court.
This class is imperative in the transitional process to have students move out of Red ball into our Orange Intermediate program, while continuing their tennis development and love of the sport. Students in our Red Advanced class are on a pathway to compete in junior Orange ball USTA match play down the road.

Our Orange Advanced class is a 90-minute invitation-only class. This is for our top Orange ball students that have demonstrated the ability to do what is asked of them, win multiple situational games, and have competed in USTA Orange ball round robins each semester they are enrolled in Empire. In this class, players will learn to swing fast accurately, learn Continental grip on their serve, and apply winning match play tactics.
Another important component of this Orange Advanced class is the introduction of Green ball. Provided the players listen and apply themselves well, players will transition from the 60’ Orange ball court to the 78’ court using the Green balls. During this time, students will get acclimated to using the larger court with the higher ball bounces and heavier contacts. Technical instruction becomes even more specific on all shots and students will play several different tactical games on the 78’ court.
This class is imperative in the transitional process to have students move out of Orange ball into our Green Intermediate program. To inquire about the following programs, please contact Director of Junior Programs, Julian Danko.

Varsity
Empire's Varsity Team is designed for players looking to take their match play to the next level. These players have already consistently demonstrated proficiency in the mental, physical, and emotional competencies practiced in our Intermediate groups. These players may or may not already be members of their high school varsity teams, but are now preparing to amplify the intensity of their training regimen so they can be successful at a higher level of competition.
This invite-only program is designed for our advanced-level high school kids that are looking to improve their match play skills by learning skills on and off the court to mentally and physically prepare better for match play. This program is only offered as a package including one or two weekly group lessons, monthly private lessons, and complimentary open court time. You must have a UTR between 3-5.

Tournament Training Program
This invite-only program is designed for our advanced-level high school kids that are looking to improve their performance in tournaments by learning a new set of mental, emotional, and physical skills both on and off the tennis court. A tournament is an environment that creates new and different challenges for a player - playing early-morning or late-night matches, traveling to unfamiliar facilities, competing against unfamiliar opponents, and more. Being able to overcome these challenges and perform at a high level is a skill that is developed over time. Players in TTP learn how to prepare properly and optimize their technique and tactics, not just for one match, but for a series of matches like they would expect to play during a tournament. This program is only offered as a package including one or two weekly group lessons, monthly private lessons, and complimentary open court time. You must have a UTR between 5-7.
